Second Chance Day on the Hill 2022

Every year, the Minnesota Second Chance Coalition hosts Second Chance Day on the Hill at the Minnesota State Capitol. Join us for this year's virtual event to hear stories, meet with our lawmakers, and advocate for policies that advance second chances in Minnesota. Please only register for this event if you plan to attend legislative visits!

This year's Second Chance Day is focused on Felony Murder Law Reform. Minnesota Second Chance Coalition believes that people should not be punished for the actions of another. However, because of Minnesota's aiding and abetting felony murder doctrine, people can be punished for murder even when they didn't kill anyone, nor even intend for another person to die. A recent study (report and executive summary linked on this page) shows that this doctrine is used to over-punish Black people and young people at disproportionate rates. We stand with Felony Murder Law Reform in calling for changes so that Minnesotans are only held accountable for the mistakes that they make, and not punished for the homicidal acts of another.

Legislative visits: Tuesday March 1st 1:30pm-4:30pm and Wednesday March 2nd 9am-1pm. These will be held via zoom and last about 20 minutes per visit.  Your specific visit times depend on the availability of your representative and senator on March 1 and 2. MNSCC will schedule one visit with each, and be back in touch with your visit schedule and to answer any questions you have. Registration for legislative visits closed on 2/22/22.
